RSPA Scholarship Fund Launches Major Donation Program

RALEIGH, NC – The Retail Solutions Providers Association (RSPA) Scholarship Fund is establishing a major donation program to benefit VAR organizations in the retail IT industry. The purpose of the major donation program is to provide greater funding to recipients of scholarships provided by the RSPA Scholarship Fund.

The Scholarship Program was established in 1987 to help ease the costs associated with post-secondary education for the children and grandchildren of association reseller member employees. Since the inception of the RSPA Scholarship Program, nearly $3 million has been awarded.

Under the newly established major donor program, companies and individuals can create a named scholarship that will be announced to the RSPA community at launch and each time it is awarded. The first established named scholarship is the Stanley and Shirley Hayman Founder’s Scholarship, named to honor the longtime association members, co-founders of the ICRDA (Independent Cash Register Dealers Association), and co-founders of the association scholarship program. Son Alan Hayman has announced his family will add new funds to that scholarship through this new major donation program.

This summer at RetailNOW 2022, the RSPA’s annual trade show and conference, Datacap CEO Terry Zeigler announced a $50,000 donation establishing a new RSPA scholarship on behalf of longtime association member Datacap Systems Inc. Datacap’s donation is one of the largest in the history of the RSPA Scholarship Program.

In the coming months, current and retired RSPA members will solicit individuals and organizations who have benefited from the reseller channel to participate as major donors to the RSPA Scholarship Fund. Those interested in participating as a major donor or volunteer to solicit funds should email Membership@GoRSPA.org or call RSPA VP of Member Services Ashley Naggy at (704) 940-4262.

The major donation program isn’t the only significant improvement to the RSPA Scholarship Fund. On the eve of the association’s 75th anniversary to be celebrated in 2023, a new board has been established for RSPA Scholarship Fund, Inc. with the goal of enhancing and expanding the program. Board members include Hunter Allen of Cervion Systems, Chuck Prince of NCC (National Computer Corporation), Mike Seymour of Postec/Shift4, Hayman, and Zeigler.

The scholarship program has already reached new heights in 2022 with a record $8,000 received in donations at RetailNOW.
