2024 QSR Automation Study

A research study into the state of automation with loyalty programs in the QSR sector, including enrollment, tracking, redemption, and engagement, was recently conducted by Wise Marketer and sponsored by RSPA member vLoyalty, a provider of loyalty automation solutions.

Leveraging a secret shopper format, where objective data is gathered by researchers with strong domain expertise, a team of field researchers with customer loyalty practitioner knowledge visited 15 leading QSR brands in five separate geographic markets.

The primary objective of the study is to measure the current state of manual loyalty program interactions and the level of automation adopted by QSR loyalty programs. The primary questions this study addresses are:

  • Are shoppers presented with an opportunity to enroll automatically during every transaction?
  • Are member transactions accurately tracked at every transaction?
  • Do members receive automated communication of enrollment, points earned, rewards earned, and rewards redeemed?

Among the report’s key findings are:

  • Only 6.1% of QSR counterpersons ask, “Are you in our Loyalty Program?”
  • 7% of loyalty programs require a mobile app to join the program.
  • On only 8% of the visits did the loyalty programs utilize the payment terminal or POS to prompt customers to join.
