Boston, MA â€Â Cayan is pleased to announce that CEO Henry Helgeson has been honored with the PYMNTS.com Michael P. Duffy Leadership Award, given to CEOs who exhibit strong leadership and entrepreneurial qualities and who are pioneering innovations in the payments industry.
The award honors the entrepreneurial and leadership spirit of the late Chase Paymentech executive Mike Duffy who passed away in 2013, shortly before the first Innovation Project. It was presented to Mr. Helgeson on March 19, 2015, at the 2015 Payments Innovation Awards ceremony, which took place at Harvard University during the Innovation Project 2015 conference.
The Innovation Project is a content-driven discussion on the state of innovation in payments and commerce, and the show features some of the most thoughtful minds from established players, emerging disruptors and entrepreneurial visionaries in the industry.
“I am incredibly honored to accept the Michael P. Duffy Leadership Award,” said Helgeson. “My goal in starting Cayan was to build a company that people could be proud to work for, one that would continually push the envelope and drive innovation in the payments space. I’m proud to be able to accept this award on behalf of the many hardworking people who help make Cayan a true leader in this field.”
Marc Castrechini, Vice President of Product Management at Cayan, said, “Henry’s vision has remained the guiding light of the company. His passion, dedication to his employees, honesty and compassion resonate throughout the organization.”
James Ray, Managing Director of Global Enterprise Accounts at Chase Commerce Solutions, who presented the award said, “The best example of [Helgeson’s] shared spirit with Mike Duffy is a quote by Henry: ‘A business that makes nothing but money is a poor kind of business.'”
Cayan, formerly Merchant Warehouse, launched in 1998 with a focus on credit card processing and merchant services. A few years ago, the company saw a massive opportunity that expanded its focus beyond payment processing. Predicting that an influx of new payment types would enter the market, Cayan Genius® was launched to capitalize on the possibilities for payments today and in the future. Genius is designed to evolve and scale for growth, enabling businesses to add new payment types, gift card programs and loyalty solutions at any time, without disrupting existing point-of-sale systems.
Cayan’s new identity also reflects its bold vision and commitment to continued innovation. Embracing a technology-centric future was one of the key drivers behind the selection of the new name and branding. The Michael P. Duffy Leadership Award serves as validation of Helgeson’s forward-thinking perspective and ongoing role as a leader in the payments sector. Learn more about the award here.
